How About This Weather?!
Opinions on climate change range from existential crisis to moneymaking scheme. From a Biblical worldview, the need to address the issue guides us to biblical teachings on stewardship, modern political considerations, and the application of healthy skepticism.

First and foremost, Christians believe that Earth is a divine creation, entrusted to humanity for care and stewardship. Genesis 2:15 (CSB) states, “The LORD God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.” This scripture emphasizes that stewardship is not merely an option but a God-given responsibility. In this light, environmental issues become an act of faithfulness in conserving God's creation for current and future generations.
However, the role of political considerations cannot be ignored. Government policies have a significant impact on environmental health, and economic impact. Christians are called to engage in political processes, advocating for environmental policies that align with the concept of stewardship – while allowing humans to flourish, subdue the earth, and rule over it according to our Biblical mandate (Genesis 1:28). Such engagement is a practical extension of our responsibility to care for God's creation. A reasonable balance must be found in order to properly care for creation and fulfill our intended purpose.
While it is crucial to act, we should also apply healthy skepticism. In Proverbs 18:15 (NIV), we read, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” This means that responsible stewardship also involves critical evaluation of scientific claims and policy proposals. Being well-informed allows us to discern between genuine solutions and those driven by political agendas or economic interests. Throwing your hands up and saying “I’m not an expert” to get out of a hard discussion that challenges our assumptions or popular accepted narratives is not a productive Christian response.
In summary, from a Christian perspective, climate change calls us to faithful stewardship, informed political engagement, and a judicious application of skepticism. By balancing these aspects, we can seek to honor God through the responsible care of His creation.
